How to decrease pest all around New Zealand?
WALT: Use the correct structure for an explanation.

POSSUMS
Pest is a growing thing for our country.. When pests and predators were introduced they took a serious toll on the survival native plants, birds and reptiles. Pests are a threat to the world and especially New Zealand.Pests such as possums, rats and stoats kill our Maori trees such as Totara trees,Kauri trees,Kowhai trees and Pohutukawa trees. Possums were first introduced in New Zealand from Australia in 1837 to establish a fur trade. Possums have thick tail and a thick body. Possums are a wide-range across most of New Zealand. The possums are on of the greatest threat to our natural environment.

THE THREAT
Possums have a significant impact on many of New Zealand’s natural ecosystems. The growth and life-cycle of a tree or plant is significantly affected when all parts of it are eaten. Possums also have favourite food such as rātā or kamahi trees, leading to an even greater impact on these species. In 1993, possums were filmed eating kōkako bird eggs and that's why it’s a threat to New Zealand. They eat weta and our significant predictor of New Zealand land the Kauri Snail. Stoats and possums are eating kea.

DOC WORK
The survival of the whole ecosystems is affected by the possum. D.O.C is one of the agency that manage possums.

So How can we decrease pest all around New Zealand.

One way to do that by using Cyanide and Lua. The lua is food and Cyanide is a poison liquid that kills the pest in seconds. So that’s one way for D.O.C to get rid of pest so we can have our native birds back in New Zealand.
A second way to decrease pest from NZ is using 1080 everywhere so it drops from a helicopter into the bush and kills the pest and some wild animals such as Wild Pigs and Wild Cows.
The final way to reduce pest is probably traps, traps can kill them and not make them run away before you get to them. Get the traps like the bear traps with claws. Traps are cool but the possums can run away if there tails get trap because it’s so easy to get away.

In conclusion pest are a threat to New Zealand and the whole world. Pest are going to be the biggest thing for our whole environment. Do we want pest to take over our forest and our land. No! It’s time to get rid of pest before it takes over the whole world. It’s time to kill all pest to the forest and get our native birds and trees back and growing for generation for the future.

Summer Learning Journey

Kia ora, Today we were learning about why our Reading and Writing is going down.
It's going down because we ain't learning anything when it's the school holiday.

Today Whaea Tania was teaching the whole class about Summer Learning Journey.

Summer learning Journey is a site for when your reading and writing doesn't go down. There are points if you do the challenges.

I choose this country because of the weather and the big pool which is 20 acres long and 115 feet deep. This country looks amazing online but would it look even amazing in real life. That's a question I have to find out from other people online.

DOING POSSUMS

WALT understand the correct structure for a recount.
Doing Possums.

Who: Me Dad Thomas
What : Getting some possums
When: Saturday
Where: The Ngati Hine Brushes
What: Doing Possums

On Saturday the last week of the school holiday my dad Thomas and I went to the bush to get some possums. On Saturday at 6.30am I was watching Pukoro then suddenly my brother Thomas knocked on the door so I just went to sleep. When I closed my eyes I opened them and just went to go open the door. When my brother walked in and said ‘Let's go’. So I got up out of bed and went with my brother Sargent Banoffee Pie, ( That’s what I call him). So when I got in the truck my brother and dad was sitting in the waiting for me.

So when we were driving I was thinking in my head what bush are we going to go to. When we got to the bush my dad cucket the bags out of the truck. I said I thought we were going to do the bait. Nope my dad said. So I just put my bag on in followed the leader.

When we got up the top I was exhausted because we were walking up a Ridgeline. Well we got to the top we walk down the ridge to the fence and then Piru comes with the first possum to put in my bag. In my head I said ‘Why do I get the first possuem and I looked at Thomas sisipcilly.

So when my dad was putting the possuem in my bag Piru comes with another one. Man I was like Piru you bloody egg in my head. So when we were waking back up the hill I emptied my bag and then we walked to the next place. When we were walking to the next place I was excited.

When we were walking past some tree’s I notice that the trees I was walking past was like the ones at Waitangi Treaty Grounds. I seen the Rimu tree and plenty more. The nexts possums went into my dad’s bag and he said ‘ Aaaaeeee why is it going in my bag!’. And then I started smiling.

( Funny things) When I get tired I will fall over with the bag of possums and just lie down on the ground and just stay there. When I get up I can’t get up because the possums a SOOOO heavy, I have to get my brother to help me get up.

( STORY) When I walk down the hill I feel like dropping and rolling down the hill with the bag of possums because when I go down hills I get ticklish legs like chicken and that how I get ticklish legs. Well going up the hill I was getting tired and tired each time I walk up a hill, even when I walk down the hill is get ticklish same as my brother. When we were walking to the next destination I was exhausted because I had no breath I need water because there was nothing, and yeah.

Thomas said that if he wanted something it will be a teleporter so he can teleport the possum from where he is to the truck, and I said I wanted a apple, like a juicy apple so I can drink the juice out of the apple.

Well when we got all the possums to the truck I was happy because we can go home and eat some chop suey and lemon korio. That is the end of my story.

Helping My Nanny

WALT organise and follow the structure and language chart. And finish work on time.
Introduction:

In the weekend Alice, nan and I was helping my nanny Foot My Dad and Nanny Pirikopa at steperat times.

On Saturday Alice, nan and I was just working out side and suddenly my Nanny Foot and Quentin came along with some tins and a cage on the back of the truck. When we were working we stopped and went to go help do the pig pen. ( At the moment we were just watching him build it up). When we were helping Waaka and Quentin went to go carmly go get the pigs. Well the pigs weren’t coming because there was no kai for the pigs to eat,. So Alice went to go get some food for the pigs so it will be easy to catch.

When we got the pigs in the small pig pen we put a little pig in because there is two big pigs and four little pigs. When we were catching the second pig is was one of the hardest pigs to catch. My nan had catched the big pig and just holded it’s face down to the ground and Quentin just holded to legs because he looked like he was scared of the pig. When they were talking I got told to hold the big pigs legs well Quentin goes and gets all the pigs back because he’d let the pig escape.

When he got the pigs back in, we lifted the pig up that was tied up and put it in the back of the truck. We had to tie one front leg and one back leg so the pig does not run away. We didn’t tie the little pigs legs up because they are easy to catch. The next pigs we put up was all the little pig’s, they were so easy my cousin Alice lifted on by the hair and stomach. ( With expiration) So I was tied from catching pigs, it came down to the last pig. When we were getting the last pig I was just not in the mood to put it up. Well when we did get it up we went to Pipiwai and help my Nanny Foot put the pig’s in his personal handmade pig pen. When we got to his house it was tough to get the pigs down to there pig pen, because there were steps.

That's the end of my story because  we had to days to finish it off.
What am I going to learn next's time : I'm going to learn to finish my work on time and try not to miss school.

Speech's

Speech’s Huri

Hi Kia ora maloela konichiwa and hello my name is Hurileigh and today I’ll be talking about Why do people dump rubbish?

Why do people dump rubbish we should not do that?

In New Zealand there is a ton of rubbish in the water. Heaps of sea animals think that the plastic bags are seaweed so they just eat it and die. That’s why we should band rubbish dumping.

People litter because they don’t care about public areas like the parks and the streets. The more people throw rubbish out the window or on the sidewalks the more rubbish is in the ocean. Littering is gross for the whole community. Cigarette butts are dangerous to soil and water. The cigarette butts contain harmful chemicals. That's why you should not dump rubbish.

In the ocean there is 5.25 trillion of plastic bag in the water and we need to stop it. Around the world there is 100,000 birds and turtles that die each year from eating the rubbish on the ground. There is only 5 countries that still dumps rubbish is India Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam ( I don’t know the other countries name). 60% of rubbish gets swept up on the Shaw.

How does rubbish affect me? Where I live I see rubbish in the bushes, there is like 20% of rubbish lying on the side of the road. It’s like no one cares about papatuanuku.

That’s the end of my talking to you.

Here is my video recorder of me specking.

Why do people dump there rubbish?

WALT: present an argument that will persuade an audience.

Christmas Markarade

Christmas Markarade Intro: In the holiday it was fun not only meeting my cousin from Australia but having a good time as well. On christmas day it was a markarade party. We had to dress up in fancy clothes and we had to wear a marks. It was fun because I was the only person… wait oooooh and my mum dress up in fancy clothes. I wore a red T.shirt,Red and grey tie,Black pant and a red marks with beer feet. When it was time to open our gifts I was getting nervous. I was happy for everyone that was getting there gifts. When it was my turn to get my gift I had to sing a song or do a speech. I just said ‘Thank You for the present’. At the time we were playing secret santa. When I was unwrapping my present I got some glasses and a cucumber face marks. Then I kept on getting more present from my Uncle When we were finished our presents it was time to have a kai. We had hāngi, Potato Salad,Pasta Salad,Cake,Ambrosia,Strawberry and Cream and cookie. It was nice and yummy we had a big Hākari. After a kai the beers came out and the kids went for a swim underneath our slide. When we were under the slide my nan done a lolly scramble under the slide. We all went running under the slide to get the lolly. I got 2 pocket full of lollies. When some of us were finished we went over were the drunkies to see what they were doing. When we were over there we were having a water fights with Nan,Jaydean,Tasi,JB,Wally Uncle,Waaka,Harmony,Wally Mei and Me. Soon later my Uncle Peter said ‘I’ll give you five dollars if you wet Aunty Huri’. Then my Dad said ‘ I’ll give you ten dollars if you wet her’. So Waaka and Harmony went to go wet my mum and it was funny. After that my mum went home to change her clothes. When she went home we jumped on the motor bike’s and the quad. I was the first one to jump on the motorbike. At the time it was a little dirt bike. When I was riding it I got half way in the paddock and the chain came off. So I put the chain back on and started it then gave it to Troy ( My cousin). When the quad got started we were waiting in line for the people to go on. When it was my turn I took Evon for a ride. When we went around the corner we done a drift. When I was going up the straight I was doing mad as drifts. ( The end of the drifts). When it was night time we had fire works. When someone goes past we have to say ‘MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR’. So someone went past and we said it. When they were going past it was actually my mum getting back from changing her clothes. After that we got to hold a rainbow candle shooter. When the wire works were finished the children went inside to watch Moana and the Grown ups stayed outside playing beer games and have a beer. THE END.
